reunion dinner

Author: JT   |  Jul 4th, 2008

picked up my new citibank credit cards from jurong point before meeting up with my secondary school classmates from hong kah for a small reunion dinner, actually it can’t be considered a reunion since only 5 of us attended but it could also be due to the reason that we only called 5 people.

went to the japanese buffet in sunset way but we ended up talking more than eating. stayed there for over 2 hours before walking all the way back to clementi mrt only to take cab from there.

it was a nice gathering, all 5 of us were great friends in secondary school and it’s nice to catch up with one another.

sadly to say, time flies when we are the happiest and it was soon time to part again knowing fully well that the next meet up with be years later.

it was my treat for the day and although it was rather costly, i think it was worth it!

no photos thought, we were too engrossed in talking and eating that we forgot all about snapping some photos for keepsake.

journey to the east

have a presentation with sandvik, a large european company making tools among other businesses, in the early morning so we decided to meet in orchard instead of office.

charlie was late so trond and i decided to go for breakfast at delifrance, ngee ann city before going down to sandvik.

sandvik has their own building, right smack in the middle of nowhere in changi near the saf ferry terminal, took us almost 30 minutes to reach the area and another 45 minutes turning round and round looking for the building.

i must say the presentation went quite well, better than nokia’s in fact…

didn’t pin much hope for this presentation actually but they were actually in favour of getting the screens from us…in a large quantity!

the higher the expectation, the greater the disappointment

with that in mind, i shall go for all future presentations with a half heart!

-

it was already lunch when we were done so decided to have a good lunch to celebrate, decided to go aston’s for some steak but lost our way and took us nearly another hour to reach there.

ordered some good quality steak (i forgot the name of it) and made the biggest mistake of my entire eating life.

i can’t stand the sight of bloody meat so i always have my steaks well done but because trond was ordering the same thing as me, i just told the waiter “the same” without knowing that trond has ordered his steak medium raw (or is it rare?).

almost died when i started cutting up the steak…blood was flowing out from the steak!

this is not the actual picture, i got this from google.

anyway, the steak tasted good but i just can’t stand the sight of the blood…must must must must remember to order my steaks well done from now on.

it was trond’s treat for the day so many thanks to trond!

shopping spree & movie

was half asleep on the bus when shawn called, he wanted to meet me at jurong point for dinner and since i was already heading towards that direction, i agreed.

saw a small citibank branch near the mrt and decided to sign up for the credit cards. have been wanting to sign up for it for sometime and since i was already there, i decided to sign up. luckily, i had all my documents with me so the process was a breeze, all i had to do was for them to fill up the form on my behalf and just sign on the dotted line. approval takes just 1 day so i can probably pick up the cards from the same place tomorrow after work.

each person is limited to 3 cards so i choice the dividend card (5% rebate for petrol), citibank m1 card (additional m1 bill discounts) and the clear platinum card (for partying).

1 bank down, 4 more to go.

passed a sonyericsson shop on the way to jurong point so decided to get the earpiece for trond. he has been whining about breaking his old earpiece so bought him a new one. he’s my boss afterall.

was walking along world of sports where i chanced upon a pair of slippers that i like.

damage - $12

just when i was about to pay for it, i saw this nice pair of sandals so decided to get it as well. my old pair from ecco hardly lasted a year and it wasn’t comfortable but this pair of teva sandals was just right for me.

damage - $89

also got a new badminton racket grip from sports link. it was rather costly for a grip but i like the feel so didn’t mind the extra few bucks.

damage - $9.90

wanted to get the adidas water bottle as well but realise that i don’t really use it so left the shop quickly in case i change my mind.

shawn was dead hungry by now so i left dinner’s decision to him. he suggested long john but the only seats available were deep inside and it felt like an oven there so decided to move somewhere cooler.

ended up at mos burger, at least the air there is cooler…i hate sweating in an air-conditioned place.

it was still early so we decided to go for a movie…either wanted or hancock.

i seriously think the storyline is crap but loved the effects, i think it would be better if they got someone else for the main role.

i would rate it as a weekday movie, definitely not a show you want to catch on weekends.

took a cab back after the movie as it was already late and i had a lot of stuffs with me, just wanted to get home and lie on the bed.

p/s: yiteng, got pictures liao, happy?

the big meeting

Author: JT   |  Jul 2nd, 2008

and yes, today’s the meeting with nokia’s regional marketing people.

our initial plan of using the huge car decal didn’t work due to some technical difficulties (the fucking touchscreen screwed up!) so we had to use a spare piece intended for another event for this presentation.

everything was in a rush and we ended up forgetting to bring along the usb keyboard for the mini mac, had to settle for a laptop instead of the mini mac.

everything went smooth until the last part, some bitch walked in and declared that she saw the touchscreen technology last year and it was $25 a piece.

felt like slapping her there and then, how dare she claims my uk imported patented touchscreen that cost $5000 or more a cheap taiwanese copy that probably wouldn’t work after 6 months.

luckily her words didn’t affect the mood of the others much and the majority of them (i think) went out of the meeting room with a deep impression on the product.

nokia’s office was actually at the same building as microsoft’s office, the same office i’ve worked for a couple of years back. zhilong was still in microsoft so decided to call him down to catch up with each other.

had a nice long chat before joining back with charlie and trond and had some snacks at the new eatery, i just got my pay so decided to give them both a little treat.

it was already late so we didn’t have to go back to office but that also means that trond isn’t going towards jurong, had to alight at bona vista and took a bus from there.

wrong choice

met mark around 9pm under my block, was supposed to meet earlier but he was late as usual. he was supposed to come up to my place but fudgie was coming as well so we stayed under my block for a while.

fudgie just came back from his holiday in america and he’s still the same old idiotic fudgie, who spends all his money on branded…i still can’t bring myself to believe he actually bought a pair of jeans for $2000…and he’s now $6000 in debt.

why are some people just plain stupid?

if your dad is a millionaire i wouldn’t say anything but your dad is not, stop wasting money on such stupid stuffs.

shawn later called and asked if i could accompany him but he was too shy to mix with mark and fudgie so i decided to pang seh them and went off to meet shawn instead.

oh well, i missed something exciting but i guess there’s always another day.

for the longest time

not been updating since my last post on friday night, just feeling too lazy to do anything during the weekends, think i might have caught the lethargic bug from aaron.

was supposed to meet aaron for a movie on saturday afternoon but he couldn’t wake up even after numerous smses so i ended up watching animes and dozing off at home. we agreed to catch the movie at night instead but the crowd was so crazy that aaron just refused to queue for the tickets.

and so that’s how my saturday was spent, the only good thing that happened was i sunk an enemy’s base in battle stations.

-

sunday was just as boring if not more, wanted to go out to town to look for credit card promotions but couldn’t bring myself to leave my room let alone my house so decided to give it a miss. the only thing i could look forward to was the badminton session at night.

-

monday was hardly a work day at all, was supposed to see my chiropactric in the morning but trond’s mom found a chinese doctor that was rumoured to be good so i decided to skip my session with my doctor and accompany trond to see the chinese doctor.

trond didn’t know the well so his mother ended up driving the both of us down to the doctor, somewhere in serangoon. got a shock when i saw the doctor, he was almost a photocopy of my dad cept that the doctor’s much taller. i instinctively thought that he might be a relative of mine since we have the same surname so i called my brother to check but the only doctor (either western or chinese) in the family was my uncle in law.

the doctor touched my back for a mere 3-5 seconds and came up with the conclusion that there was something wrong with my back which cause my left leg’s problem…the same conclusion my chiropractic came up with just 2 weeks back. didn’t know how much to give so trond’s mother paid him on my behalf first.

went to some chinese herbal shop in hougang to pick up some chinese herbs that the doctor told us to, didn’t know chinese medicine could be so expensive…paid $60 for 6 packets, 1 packet every 5 days.

rushed back to office after that as it was already 12pm and we had a meeting with launchgroup at 2pm.

most boring bbq

Author: JT   |  Jun 27th, 2008
Category: daily.2cents.worth

it was quite uneventful in office today other than the fact i got pissed with trond for changing his mind on the new network over and over again…gave him quite a piece of my mind, i think he could see that i was rather unhappy.

almost lost my patience with him again at the supplier’s place but that’s a another story…it’s a good thing i get over my tempers quickly.

went down to clementi to meet aaron before taking a bus down to west coast park for weisiang’s bbq. it was for no occasion but he got his mates from sim along and there were like 10 of us in all.

for the next 4 1/2 hours, the only thing i knew about those other guys was that they were human beings. i might be anti-social at times but they are the real pros. i sat there with aaron on another bench hungrily waiting for the food cooked solely by weixiang.

for most of the bbqs i’ve been to, everyone will normally have a hand in helping out but no, they spent most of the time talking and playing games within themselves…what a bunch of anti-social people.

it’s not like they are some upper class people since we were all undergrads but they really acted so.

finally felt full after 4 hours of waiting for the food that came bit by bit but i must say weixiang really put in a lot of effort to prepare and cook the food.

he prepared something like 1000 different flavours of chicken chop…okay maybe not 1000 but at least 10-15 different flavours (some tasted awful but the majority were good) of chicken chop alone.

the best dishes were the cheese potato and the garlic bread, both self made and not bought.

was really bored throughout the bbq and if it weren’t for the good food (and the fact that my pay isn’t out yet), i might have given some crap excuse and left early in a cab.

went back at 12am with aaron when weixiang and his mates were playing heart attack.

is mediaring stupid? part 2

the email that i sent out last night proved effective, i got a call from them in the morning just when i reached office.

the call was followed by a few ping pongs via email between both parties and they finally woke up their idea after i made it obvious that i was about to terminate their services.

i’m still getting 16 ips from them but the total cost per month is reduced by almost 50% of their original price.

i’ve won the battle!

supper supper supper

was blogging downstairs when vincent came online and we started chatting, it has been sometime since we both met so decided to meet up for supper at boon lay.

tried calling a few other friends but they couldn’t make it since it was already quite late.

went down to boon lay for nasi lemak before going to a quiet place to talk, caught up with each other and spent the next couple of hours just talking.

sometimes i really miss my hong kah friends but kinda lost contact after so many years.

having a mini outing next thursday at holland village with another few classmates, really looking forward to it.

out of so many close friends i had during my 3 years stay in hong kah, the most disappointing one is jinfeng.

shall not talk too much about him since i’ve totally given up hope on him, the only thing i hope is he will grow up in his mind.

hong kah, we learn from thee, we give to theeeeeeeeee
